Company History
Tom Despres was a University of Michigan tenured Ph.D. professor of Manufacturing Engineering when a sporting goods company asked him to look at their machining process. He brought to bear ingenuity and cutting-edge techniques to reengineer the process. By using rotary transfer equipment, extruded material, and a custom built cold saw, their gun sights could be made for a tenth of the previous cost. The opportunity was so compelling that Tom went into business machining them.
That first cold saw he built led to connections in the sawing industry, and eventually to contracts with the forges at Chrysler and GM. The business was so successful that he left the University to operate the company full time.
Through repeated innovations in engineering design, manufacturing know-how, and customer orientation, the company has grown in success for over 30 years. Now it stands as a financially stable supplier of millions of parts per year to the auto and steel industries.
